For many people in position of power, relinquishing the said power for the greater good is sometimes an issue.

Auburn introduced Chip Lindsey as its offensive coordinator on Saturday. Head coach Gus Malzahn — known as an offensive guru of sorts — has had his fingerprints all over the Auburn offensive scheme since he’s been with the program.

However, Malzahn revealed during Saturday’s press conference that he will not call the plays this upcoming year. It will instead be Lindsey — the former Arizona State play-caller.

In fact, Malzahn mentioned the development of quarterbacks, the confidence in turning the offense over to Lindsey, and utilizing the same offensive philosophy as the critical items on the agenda during this offseason.

The head coach also admitted that the remainder of the offensive staff will be left intact.

Malzahn had this to say about his new offensive coordinator:

“Chip is going to call the plays. This is going to be Chip’s offense I told him we’re in great shape offensively. I’m kind of jealous, honestly I’m very excited about next year. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
