Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga., will name its football field after Philip Lutzenkirchen, Auburn’s all-time leader in touchdowns by a tight end who died in a car accident last summer.

The move was passed unanimously by the Cobb County School Board on Thursday. The new turf field at Frank Filmann Stadium will be named “Lutzie 43 Field” according to AL.com.

A captain on the Tigers’ 2010 national championship team, Lutzenkirchen caught 59 passes for 628 yards and a school-record 14 touchdowns in four seasons before signing a free agent contract with the St. Louis Rams in 2012.

The turf field, expected to cost $332,000, will be completed before August. Lutzenkirchen’s charity foundation will fund the operation.
