Checking in on the midseason temperatures in Auburn, Ala., …

HOT

Quan Bray is having a stellar senior season, and is coming off the best game of his career. Bray caught two touchdowns on 91 yards receiving in last week’s win over Louisiana Tech. He also returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown, his second of the season. Bray is beginning to prove he can be an added big play threat for the Tigers both at receiver and on special teams, where Auburn has been very good this season.

WARM

The defense continues to play well. It has given up 13, 14 and 17 points in the last three games and has notched at least one takeaway in each game. Montravius Adams and Gabe Wright are monsters in the middle of the defense live and linebackers Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy have been two veteran leaders for Ellis Johnson. The Tigers rank in the top 20 nationally in several categories, including scoring defense and run defense.

COLD

Has anyone seen the Auburn offense? Despite averaging over 42 points per game, the offense has yet to click at the level at which it was playing through the final eight games of last season’s run to the national championship game. Sammie Coates has been slowed by a nagging knee injury, while neither Cameron Artis-Payne or Corey Grant has become an elite back yet. The points continue to come and the yards continue to rack up, the the crispness and execution is not there yet.

FROZEN

Auburn’s SEC championship and College Football Playoff hopes are not looking very good right now. At best, the Tigers look like the fourth best team in the West behind Alabama, Texas A&M and Mississippi State. Auburn begins a gauntlet of October and November and will have a shot to prove where it stacks up every week.
