Here are a few grades from Auburn’s 34-7 loss at Georgia:

OFFENSE: C-

It was the worst offensive output under Gus Malzahn for Auburn, and the least-productive offensive performance by a Gus Malzahn-coached team since his Arkansas State team played Nebraska in 2012. The Tigers totaled just 292 yards of total offense, and averaged a season-low 4.3 yards per carry on the ground. Nothing went right for an Auburn offense that was non-existent after its opening scoring drive.

DEFENSE: C

Georgia gained the most rushing yards of any team Auburn has faced this season, but the Bulldogs’ offensive numbers weren’t gaudy. Nick Chubb and Todd Gurley had big nights, rushing for 144 and 138 yards respectively. Tackling, alignment and communication continue to be issues that hurt the Tigers on the defensive side of the football. Auburn got off the field on third downs, but did not force any turnovers. Ellis Johnson could not find any production at linebacker tonight, a position that has been an anchor for the Tigers this season. Auburn’s regression over the last month on the defensive side of the football has been alarming.

SPECIAL TEAMS: C-

Quan Bray muffed a punt return that led to points and Gray King was called for a roughing the punter penalty that extended a Georgia drive and led to points. Daniel Carlson and Jimmy Hutchinson got plenty of work in punting the football, and had a decent night doing so.

COACHING: B-

Auburn showed up to a rivalry game unmotivated, lost and unprepared to play a good team. This team’s collapse down the stretch has to fall on the shoulders of its coaches. The Tigers haven’t been able to find an answer to its defensive struggles, and mental errors continue to haunt a veteran team. The last month of play from this Auburn team has been unacceptable.

OVERALL: C+

Auburn got dominated on Saturday night, let’s not make any bones about it. Georgia had its way in all three phases of the game. The Tigers are reeling, and now return home to face a Samford team it shouldn’t have any major issues with. Auburn has to find a way to stop the bleeding defensively, and get back to its rhythm offensively.
