Brushing up on your sports history might be a good idea if you’re about to be a contestant on Jeopardy.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper, 60 Minutes‘ Lara Logan, and MSNBC’s Michael Steele — who appeared on Tuesday night’s edition of Celebrity Jeopardy — learned this the hard way. All three decided to pass on a relatively easy question (for a general audience, at least) about former Auburn and current Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton.

Newton is one of the more well-known names in professional sports, having come off a year where he won the NFL’s MVP award and took his team to the Super Bowl. If it weren’t bad enough, these three contestants are some of the most recognized journalists and television personalities in the nation.

But hey. They don’t “do sports.” So can you really blame them? (The answer is yes. Yes you can.)
