Why on earth would you do that, Coach?!? This is your chance to get more mainstream coverage, not to mention a chance for an upset against a top program, and you turned them down?!? I just don't get it...
Wow, where has this defensive production been all season?!? Great way for the Cocks to finish the season and build toward next year. All in all, it was a great day to be a Gamecock.
A fitting end to this forgettable season. To demonstrate the fine line between success and failure, if the Gamecocks had produced a fourth quarter stop against Auburn and had just held on against Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri, they would be 10-2 and playing in Atlanta next week. However, without some timely boubces and clutch plays against East Carolina, Georgia, and Vanderbilt, we would be 3-9. This year was not meant to be. Get over it and regroup for 2015.
While I do agree that the SEC remains the best conference, it was a bad day for them yesterday. They lost all four ACC-SEC matchups, and Ole Miss beat Mississippi State, which probably cost them a playoff spot. If Alabama falls to Missouri next week, it's possible the conference could not have any teams in the playoffs. We shall see.
Boy, that was ugly to watch!! Ten total turnovers plus eleven penalties?? Even the Fox announcers were left speechless, asking if either team was interested in winning the game. The defense played well in the second half, so I hope that at least carries over to next week. So long as the Cocks beat Clem's son, that's all that matters at this point. We'd better be ready, because they sure will be.
Clem's Son and his minions really are incensed that they have been dominated these past five years. They have been laying the wood to us for the past forty years and had no problem rubbing it in, and now they have no choice but to take it until they can beat us again. Loving every moment of it!! The win streak will come to an end at some point, but what a ride it's been. IPTAY: I Plant Taters Avery Year.
Penalty Flags: -Coaching. SOS has Mike Davis and Brandon Wilds to pound the rock and he keeps chucking the ball down the field. Yes, the ending was exciting but it never should have come to that. If he would keep with the running game, they would have had the game in hand. -Officiating. How many bad calls against the Gamecocks came during crucial moments? The block in the back and the pass interference that never occurred are but two examples off the top of my head. GAME BALLS: Defense. Best game of the year. They played hard and never gave up. When it looked like the Gators had the game won, they rose to the occasion. -Special Teams. Blocked field goal and blocked punt in the same game? Doesn't get much better than that. Mike Davis. One of the best runners in the country waited patiently for his turn. On the option pitch at the end of regulation, he alertly fell on the ball in the end zone to tie the game. During OT, he keyed the drive to the winning touchdown with tough runs in the trenches. -Dylan Thompson. Not a great game overall, but he also didn't give up and made a great fake that gave him a clear path to the end zone. He of all people deserves a win like this.
"The good news for Cole Stoudt: He threw two TD passes on Saturday. The bad news? He doesn't play for Georgia Tech." I was expecting something more like this from SOS.
My initial impression is that Florida is going to have their way with my Gamecocks. But Spurrier has a habit of having his guys ready to play in games they're supposed to lose. We'll see on Saturday. GO COCKS!!!
Don't go to a bowl game. You don't deserve it given the year you've had. Just beat Clemson and we'll be fine. Regroup and reload for 2015 and hope that team can live up to the hype this team received at the beginning of the season.
We are going to get pounded by Florida in two weeks. They look awake and strong now. Please, guys, just beat Clemson and we'll be able to say the season was not a total loss. The Cocks could be 8-1 right now, but also could just as easily be 1-8. Sucks for sure but I am sticking with my guys.
I disagree...didn't much like the black helmets they wore in 2004. Anyone else for black jerseys and pants and garnet helmets? Still, this is a bit of good news. Hope it translates to victory Saturday night. GO COCKS!!!
I think it is now safe to say the Cocks are in salvage mode for this season. While I agree they can win the rest of their games, they also are cspable of three more looses. It is that close and all depends on what their defense does. Even if they lose to Tennessee and to Florida, if they can beat Clemson for thd sixth straight time the season ends on a good note.
That's right, nothing to lose. Spurrier has been in this position before, where he's matched against a clearly better team and has pulled off the upset or has come darn close. Not saying it's going to happen, but am saying don't count them out. They have real talent on this team but they have not played up to their abilities. If they can string together long, sustained drives and if the defense plays like they did for 3 1/2 quarters against Mizzou, they'll be in good shape. GO COCKS!!!
Conventional wisdom says we're going to get clobbered by Auburn, but this season has been so wacky that I am crazy enough to believe my guys can pull it off. Not saying it is going to happen, but there is something in the air that makes you want to believe. Oh, can you please stop using the term"former Marine?" Unless you get kicked out of the Corps, you are a Marine until the day you die. If you please, the correct term is discharged Marine.
It takes a lot to get Spurrier to admit he needs to change his offensive game plan. Given the shortcomings on defense, long sustained drives featuring a power run game and short passes need to be emphasized the rest of the season. Not a particularly impressive win this week, but winning always is the best remedy.
Considering the product he has put on the field during his tenure, I think the rest of the SEC is fine with him staying put. That being said, the team has two possible outcomes to this season: they can use this loss to come together as a team and play to their potential, or they can pack it in and face another losing season. Not saying the former is a distinct possibility, but write them off at your own peril.
For the second week in a row, the Gamecocks took a substantial lead in the fourth quarter and found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. What on earth was HBC thinking, putting the ball in the air when they had been running so effectively all game? Five games left and I only see two of them as sure wins (Furman and South Alabama). Florida and Tennessee had been possible wins, but after the last two games, not so sure anymore. On the bright side, it says a lot about how far the program has come, that at 3-3 we are a major disappointment. Before Spurrier and Lou Holtz, this was Standard Operating Procedure. Now, in the midst of a disappointing season, we have the hope to be able to say, Wait Until Next Year. GO COCKS!!!
Underappreciated by whom? Maybe the national media wouldn't give him the time of day (which is why he is on the Browns' practice squad instead of starting somewhere), but he is loved by Gamecocks Nation. He will always be welcome on the sidelines at Williams-Brice. His contributions are missed far more than Jadeveon Clowney's. At least Conner Shaw played four years and saved his best for last instead of mailing it in. Number 14 jerseys will be seen in the home stands for years to come.
Frustrating night all around. The defense finally showed up and the offense did not, in large part. We finally looked like we put the game away and that perception changed in just three plays. It was a tight game that we controlled, for the most part, and the collapse in the second half of the fourth quarter was tough to watch. It might very well be time to give the understudy at quarterback some significant playing time to prepare for next season. I firmly believe we have the players we need, but they need a bit more "seasoning" to relicate the successes of 2011-13. Let's not write off this season just yet, but let's also not keep the same set of expectations.
Here's hoping my Gamecocks are in a positionnot to get to the conference championship, but to win it. That being said, if Nick Saban is the coach everyone says he is, you won't see him losing games in 2014 he should win easily (read: Oklahoma). They should be playing for the conference and the national championship this season, but if they aren't, he still needs to motivate them to play to their abilities.
They lost a ton of talent from last year, but I am excited about their chances to (finally!) break into the top tier bowls and, perhaps, into the playoffs. We shall see how the season plays out...that's why the games are played. SEC football...gotta love it!!!
