The quality of Florida’s 2016 recruiting class is improving fast.

Just last week, the Gators held 13 commitments, and just one of those was a consensus four-star player.

Florida and coach Jim McElwain held the annual Friday Night Lights camp this week and picked up four more commitments, including a pair of four-star players.

Linebacker Jeremiah Moon, included in those numbers, pledged to the Gators on Saturday. He chose Florida ahead of Mississippi State and South Carolina. The chance at early playing time was a significant factor, according to Gator Country.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound outside linebacker from Hoover, Ala., breaks up what had been an offense-heavy group of players at the top of Florida’s recruiting rankings. He joins four-star cornerback Chauncey Gardner and three-star safety Quincy Lenton as the premier defensive players in this class thus far.

“It’s beautiful and definitely a college town,” Moon said, according to 247Sports. “I just like all the palm trees and the scooter riding. It’s a nice feeling.”

Florida’s current class ranks No. 5 in the SEC (up three spots) and No. 15 nationally (up seven spots).

But even with a pair of four-star additions, the average rating of the 17 Gators commitments rates just ninth in the SEC. McElwain and his staff need to add a few more high-end players between now and National Signing Day.
