Redshirt sophomore Caleb Brantley has decided to forgo entering the NFL Draft early and stay with the Florida Gators.

“I just felt like I could better myself if I came back next year,” Brantley told The Gainesville Sun. “I feel like I really haven’t played how I can play yet. I mean, I played good, but I know I can do better.”

Brantley recorded 28 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks for the Gators last year. It was a big season for Brantley as he took to the Gators’ new coaching staff.

He was on record having problems adjusting to then-defensive line coach Brad Lawing. He admitted to The Gainesville Sun the two did not get along. It seemed he just did not find a good coaching connection.

With new defensive line coach Chris Rumph, Brantley said he discovered something new about himself and matured as a player. Certainly another year at Florida would help continue that maturation.

For a strong Gators defense, keeping some potential leaders and talent is important. Florida certainly hopes Brantley continues his growth and maturation he experienced this year.
