Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin, who was hired to replace longtime AD Jeremy Foley in September, joined WRUF 850 AM Tuesday to discuss a plethora of topics regarding his new position.

One of the lengthier conversations was about the Gators’ athletic facilities and the department’s game plan for the future.

“We don’t have a timeline but we’re wanting to move as quickly as we can on the three main projects right now,” Stricklin said. “We’ve got to do some fund-raising. We’re in the process of moving forward on that. We’ve got to identify some other funding.”

Florida announced a plan for $100 million in facility upgrades to football, baseball and softball shortly before Stricklin took the job.

He made it clear this morning the importance of continuing that trend — improving facilities — in the years to come under his tenure.

“Facilities are such an important part of what you do in college athletics these days, especially in the SEC or a Power 5 league,” he said. “It’s never a situation where you finish a project and you say ‘well, we’re done with facilities now.’ It is an evolving, constant attention that you have to pay to facilities to make sure that you’re current and up to date.

“My hope is we look back in the next three, five, seven years and there’s significant progress in all these areas,” he added. “And at the same time, we’re not done at that point. We’re looking three, five, seven years down the road past that and we’ve got more things we’re wanting to do. I just think that’s something that will always be a priority for us.”

Florida’s football team will compete for the SEC championship this Saturday against No. 1 Alabama in Atlanta, GA.
