An estimated 10,000-15,000 Florida fans visited The Swamp for Saturday’s Orange and Blue Debut. Because of depth reasons along the offensive line, Florida had four 12-minute running quarters, but the Gators still managed to have a full-fledged scrimmage. The Gators had just six healthy offensive linemen for Saturday’s scrimmage, a far cry from the desired amount.

Thankfully, six new offensive linemen roll into Gainesville this summer, and the team welcomes back Rod Johnson and Trip Thurman from injury. Both missed Saturday’s spring game.

Florida is a team that will build around its talented and deep defense under Geoff Collins, and all eyes Saturday were on the ever-evolving offense.

Here are a few takeaways from Florida’s spring game:

The quarterback who stood out: Between Will Grier and Treon Harris, Grier looked the most polished. He led the offense on a scoring drive on the team’s first possession, completing a couple of nice throws. Harris certainly didn’t look bad, and he had a few good throws. Grier, though, stood out the most, and he had a beautiful back-shoulder throw in the third quarter to tight end C’yontai Lewis, probably his best throw of the day.

Grier finished the day 7-of-9 for 130 yards, while Harris finished 6-of-9 for 49 yards and one touchdown.

The target: Florida has to find more ways to get Demarcus Robinson the football, and even during the spring game, Jim McElwain and Doug Nussmeier showed they would target him more. Robinson returned the opening kickoff of the game for a touchdown to start the Jim McElwain era, which proves he’ll play on special teams and should be a weapon. Robinson also had an end-around reverse, and he recorded several catches, including a 42-yard leaping grab from Treon Harris. He looks fabulous, and he could become really special in 2015. Honestly, Robinson looks NFL-ready right now.

A new weapon: Tight ends DeAndre Goolsby and C’yontai Lewis looked great Saturday, and Florida desperately needs increased production from the position. Sixth-year senior Jake McGee also returns from his injury in 2015, and the outlook looks much better for an improved position. Goolsby’s body type reminds me of former tight end Jordan Reed, and he’s a hybrid-type weapon. Lewis is built more like a wide receiver and is a true slash who should help create mismatches against linebackers. Jim McElwain is known for making tight ends offensive weapons. This group should be the most improved in 2015.
