Former Florida and current Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd underwent surgery on his left knee Thursday, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told Pro Football Talk.

Floyd was selected by Minnesota with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and has been a starter for the last two years, but was limited during his first two games in 2016. He played only 25 snaps in Week One before injuring his knee during that same game.

Zimmer indicated that Floyd’s surgery was just a cartilage cleanup, but it should cause concern given his history of knee problems during his pro career.

Floyd was a first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC defensive tackle during his junior season at Florida in 2012. He finished his college career with 115 tackles, 26 for loss, 9.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one pass defended and three blocked field goals.
