As a former quarterback for South Carolina, I have to admit that Florida handed the Gamecocks that game.

The Gators had it won and just gave it away.

I’m very proud of the Gamecocks for keeping their heads in the game and not giving up. That takes a lot of mental strength and leadership and I am so proud of the guys. That said, they were extremely lucky — dare I say, “Auburn 2013” lucky?

The players love coach Will Muschamp. He’s a very likable guy, but he made a crucial error this weekend.

I’m not sure exactly what the breakdown was, but getting a chip-shot field goal and a punt blocked late in the game is unacceptable.

The Gamecocks had zero timeouts and hadn’t moved the ball on Florida’s defense since the first quarter. As a coach, you absolutely have to call for a max protection on that last punt to ensure a block doesn’t happen.

The loss ensured coach Muschamp’s fate, as the university notified the media that he is gone after this season. All he had to do was max protect that last punt and I believe they win that game and he’s still the coach of the Gators.
