The Matchup: Florida (2-0) at Alabama (3-0)

The Venue: Bryant-Denny Stadium

The Kick: 3:30 p.m. ET

TV: CBS

Series record: Alabama leads 23-14

Last meeting: In 2011, Alabama traveled to The Swamp and handed Will Muschamp his first loss as Florida’s head coach. The Gators jumped out to a 10-3 lead, but the Crimson Tide scored 35 unanswered points in a 38-10 rout.

Coaches: Will Muschamp (24-16), Nick Saban (173-57-1)

Last game (Florida): The Gators opened up their SEC schedule last week against Kentucky and squeaked out with a triple overtime victory. Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson played a huge role in the victory, hauling in 15 catches for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

Last game (Alabama): Alabama looked somewhat sluggish and uninspired against Southern Miss last week. The Crimson Tide eventually cruised to a 52-12 victory and wideout Amari Cooper continued on his torrid pace with another eight catches and 100-plus yard game. Quarterback Blake Sims further separated himself as the Tide’s starting quarterback with 168 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Florida wins if: The defense can create turnovers. With a defense as talented as Alabama, it’ll be tough for the Gators to mount several scoring drives across the field. They’ll need shorter field position at times to put up the points necessary to be Alabama.

Alabama wins if: They can establish the running game. Alabama features arguably the best group of running backs in the conference. If Henry, Yeldon and Drake and be effective, that should open things up for Sims in the passing game and keep an aggressive Florida defense honest.

What it means if Florida wins: They can officially be considered a serious contender in the SEC. After a shaky opener against UK, a win in Bryant-Denny Stadium would immediately solidify Florida’s chances to win the SEC East. A close loss would also be a huge positive for the Gators. Alabama’s reputation this season would certainly take a hit, considering Florida isn’t even a ranked team at this point.

What it means if Alabama wins:  Not as much if Florida wins. Alabama is a 17.5 point favorite heading into this game. I doubt many would bat an eye if the Crimson Tide win on Saturday, but it would probably need to be at least by multiple scores. Even a close win would possibly raise some concerns about the Crimson Tide moving forward.
