Last Friday, Florida fans heard news that I’m sure made their stomach tie up in knots — starting quarterback Treon Harris got involved with the police again.

Harris, along with teammates Jalen Tabor and JC Jackson, were pulled over for speeding. Police charged Harris with a second-degree misdemeanor of driving without a license. Marijuana was found in the car, but since it wasn’t either one of the players’ car, police din’t charge anyone with possession of marijuana.

The charges are expected to be dropped once Harris does obtain a license, so no harm, no foul right?

While thankfully this is a much less serious situation than the sexual assault accusation placed against him earlier in the year, it’s certainly not comforting for Florida fans to see Harris’ name attached to more law enforcement news.

This is Harris’ second time involved with police during his freshman season at Florida. His accuser dropped any sort of sexual assault allegations just a few days after making them and this misdemeanor charge of driving without a license can be remedied once he obtains a license.

However, if this continues to be a trend, Harris’ playing career at Florida could be in serious jeopardy. By no means is he on his last chance, but two incidents — no matter how serious they may or not be — begin to add up.

During Will Muschamp’s time at Florida, he cleaned up the Gators’ program. Off-the-field incidents began to decrease significantly and when they did occur, swift and decisive punishments were leveled against the players.

And now, Jim McElwain is head coach. Is he the same person as Muschamp? No. Will he be his as strong on off-field incidents as Muschamp? Probably.

Cleaning up the program was one of Muschamp’s main tasks he was assigned when he took over the program. Now that he did that, do you think Jeremy Foley would hire someone without the same attitude as Muschamp toward player run-ins with law enforcement?

Harris’ bowl status, along with Tabor’s, is unaffected because of this incident. The Gators released a statement saying this would be handled internally.

However, as the starting quarterback and now a player with multiple law enforcement incidents during the season, you can bet all eyes will be on Harris off-the-field. Hopefully for Harris’ sake, he doesn’t put McElwain in a tough position later on and force his hand to make a tougher punishment that would affect his playing status at Florida.

And hopefully for Harris, this is the last we hear of him involved in any sort of law enforcement situation.
