2014 Texas Bowl
The Arkansas Razorbacks looked like a team on a mission in their 31-7 win over former Southwest Conference rival Texas in the 2014 Texas Bowl. The Hogs jumped out to an early 17-0 lead just 22 minutes into the game and never looked back, dominating the game in all three phases on their way to their first bowl victory in four years.
After falling behind by 17, Texas rallied and pieced together its only scoring drive of the day late in the second quarter — an eight-play, 44-yard drive to cut the lead to 10 at 17-7. However, Arkansas responded with a touchdown drive of its own just before halftime, reclaiming a 17-point advantage while sucking the life out of the Longhorns.
Arkansas only outscored Texas 7-0 in the second half, but the Razorbacks defense ensured the team’s halftime lead was safe. The Longhorns mustered just 59 yards of total offense for the game including just 2 yards rushing. Arkansas forced a pair of turnovers and by game’s end had amassed a 22-minute advantage in time of possession.
Brandon Allen completed 12 of 23 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Tailbacks Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins combined to rush for 181 yards on 40 carries, and Williams’ fourth quarter touchdown marked the only scoring of the second half by either team.
Martrell Spaight and Trey Flowers each had a pair of tackles for loss against the Longhorns, and Flowers and Darius Philon each added a sack in a dominant defensive performance.
Arkansas closed the year with a 7-6 record, while Texas fell to 6-7 with the bowl loss.
