2014 Arkansas vs Auburn

Arkansas traveled to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the team’s first-ever season-opening SEC contest. As the defending SEC Champions, Auburn entered the contest as the overwhelming favorite.

Early on, Auburn took control of the game through the passing attack. Head coach Gus Malzahn showed off his new asset in JUCO wide receiver Duke Williams, who gashed the Arkansas secondary all game.

Arkansas fought back, however, by way of the running game. Their trio of running backs – Alex Collins, Jonathan Williams and Korliss Marshall – ran right through Auburn’s front seven. The success in the running game also opened up the play action attack for the Hogs. Junior quarterback Brandon Allen executed well in the first half, hooking up on two touchdown passes with his tight ends Hunter Henry and AJ Derby.

Auburn eventually pulled away in the second half, thanks to the season debut of quarterback Nick Marshall and a pick-six by safety Jeremiah Whitehead. The Tigers’ bullied Arkansas around with a strong, physical running attack featuring Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant.

Auburn won the game 45-21.
