2014 Mississippi vs LSU

LSU pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season, knocking off No. 3 Ole Miss in a defensive battle. LSU trailed late in the fourth quarter, but put together a 13-play, 95-yard drive that ate up nearly 6 minutes in the fourth quarter. After 12 straight running plays, Anthony Jennings rolled out to his right and floated a pass to tight end Logan Stokes to give the Tigers a 10-7 lead.

On the ensuing Ole Miss drive, LSU stopped the Rebels on fourth down to get the ball back, but promptly went three-and-out to give the Rebels one last chance. Ole Miss lined up for a 42-yard field goal on third down with 0:09, but took a delay of game penalty that pushed them back five yards. Instead of trying the 47-yarder, the Rebels attempted to run another play. Bo Wallace rolled left, saw nothing and, instead of throwing it away, made an ill-advised heave toward the end zone. LSU safety Ronald Martin came underneath to intercept the pass, sealing the win.

LSU ran for 264 yards against a tough Ole Miss defense, led by Leonard Fournette’s 113 yards. Kenny Hilliard came into the game late and powered LSU with 63 tough yards, many of them in the fourth quarter. The Tigers let several opportunities slip away, fumbling at the goal line in the first quarter for one of their four turnovers, as well as missing a short field goal early.

The Tigers limited Ole Miss to 313 total yards and forced Wallace into a 14-of-34, 176-yard night passing the ball. The late interception was Wallace’s first turnover in SEC play.

The win came less than 24 hours after LSU coach Les Miles’ mother, Martha, passed away. Miles told his team on Friday night and was on the sidelines for the Tigers, coaching his team to a physical win.
