It’s common in the SEC for a recruiting class to rank in the top 10 in the nation yet barely in the top five inside the conference.

That is where Georgia sits the day before National Signing Day.

RELATEDAnnouncement times for the SEC’s top uncommitted prospects

New coach Kirby Smart has done an excellent job of recruiting in his short time at Georgia. It helped that No. 2-ranked QB Jacob Eason decided to remain committed despite the coaching change.

But the Bulldogs still have a lot of work to do. Their recruiting class is ranked eighth overall, and fifth in the SEC, yet Georgia only has 16 commits. At least five more, three of which could be five-star players, could be added in the next day.

Georgia’s current two five-star commitments are Eason, who is from Washington, and five-star TE Isaac Nauta, a Georgia native who went to IMG Academy in Florida.

The Bulldogs’ 16 commitments are from five different states, including 10 from Georgia.

GEORGIA 2016 RECRUITING CLASS

  • National Rank: 8
  • SEC Rank: 5
  • No. of Commitments: 16
  • No. of Commitments by Rating: 2 five-stars, 9 four-stars, 5 three-stars

Top incoming offensive players: Five-star QB Jacob Eason, five-star TE Isaac Nauta, four-star OT Ben Cleveland
Top incoming defensive players: Four-star DT Julian Rochester, four-star DE Chauncey Manac, four-star ILB Jaleel Laguins
Primary remaining targets: Five-star DT Rashan Gray, five-star ILB Ben Davis, five-star ATH Mecole Hardman Jr., five-star WR Demetris Robertson
Best-case scenario: Georgia is a longshot to land the top overall player in the 2016 recruiting class, Rashan Gray from Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, so next-case scenario for Georgia would be signing their other three five-star targets. The Bulldogs are heavy favorites to get top- ranked athlete Mecole Hardman Jr. of Elberton, Ga. He could play either wide receiver or defensive back.
