When it comes to the SEC, the schools compete in everything, including how long it takes them to respond to open records requests for information.

According to Marc Weiszer of onlineathens.com, the Bulldogs were able to level the playing field a little by adding a significant window of time. The university now has 90 business days to respond, extending it from three days previously.

Despite the decision, it still falls short of the state of Alabama’s laws, which doesn’t have a specific time to respond.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed the bill into law, and it applies to all athletic departments of public schools in the state. The decision comes about six weeks after new Georgia football coach Kirby Smart visited the state capitol on Feb. 23 to discuss differences in open records laws.

Rep. Earl Ehrhart and State Senator Bill Cowsert stated that the reason for the amendment stems from requests for “recruiting information.” However, one bit of info isn’t included in the 90-day amendment, and that’s salary information of non-clerical staff.
