Georgia fans may remember the name Johnathan Abram.

He was a safety for the Bulldogs in 2015. As a freshman that year, he had 25 tackles.

Abram still plays for the Bulldogs, but not the ones from Georgia. He signed with Mississippi State in December after transferring from Georgia to Jones County Junior College in January 2016, according to a report from The Clarion-Ledger.

Abram will return to Athens on Saturday when 17th-ranked Mississippi State travels to battle No. 11 Georgia. He had some strong words for what his team is going to do to the other Bulldogs.

“It will be a great feeling,” Abram said. “To get a chance to go between the hedges but on the opposite side … I mean, I just look forward to going in with my team and, honestly, just beating the brakes off of them.”

Abram apparently left Georgia for a few reasons, most notably not wanting to stick around after the departures of former head coach Mark Richt and defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

“I really was kind of lost as a freshman so I just had to find myself,” Abram said. “I just wasn’t happy.”

State defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who also will be making a return trip to his former school in Athens, said Abram is “obsessed with being a great player” and listed him as one of the defense’s leaders.

“I just want to show people that we mean business,” Abram said. “A lot of people overlook Mississippi State, but this is our year and this is a chance to show that to everybody.”
