Jacob Eason, the No. 1 quarterback in the nation (according to Rivals) is currently taking an official visit to Florida. But his high school coach doesn’t believe Eason will end up being a Gator.

“Tell those folks in Georgia to put the razor blades away,” Lake Stevens (Wash.) High coach Tom Tri told DawgNation. “He’s a Georgia Bulldog right now, and once the school gets their new head coach in place and Jacob and his family get to meet him, I don’t really see him wavering too much.”

Eason, a five-star quarterback, committed to Georgia in July 2014, and has remained firmly committed to the Bulldogs since then.

But since Mark Richt was fired as Georgia’s head coach on Sunday, people have wondered if Eason will look elsewhere. Neither Eason nor his family have spoken to the media or revealed much about their plans since then.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart will become Georgia’s next head coach shortly after the SEC Championship Game.

Eason and the Bulldogs’ new coach will likely be in contact soon after the hiring becomes official. Then, like the rest of Georgia’s recruits, he will decide whether to keep his commitment to the Bulldogs or go elsewhere.

“From what I know, Jacob and his family are in wait-and-see mode with Georgia,” Tri said. “He’s waiting to see if Georgia hires someone. It doesn’t have to be right away, but somewhere in the near future. He’s still committed to Georgia, but he just doesn’t know who the new coach is going to be. He’s in a sit-and-wait status, but at the same time he wants to keep his options open.”

Tri also said that Eason told Washington State coach Mike Leach on Monday that he was committed to Georgia.

But if Eason does decide to go elsewhere, his coach believes the star quarterback will end up staying on the West Coast.

“At the start of the season, UCLA was definitely second or third for him,” Tri said. “It was Georgia by far and away in first place and then a distant — I mean a really distant — second and third would have been Washington and UCLA. Cal then got into the picture when (offensive coordinator) Tony Franklin came up. But it would be pick-a-straw between Cal, Washington and UCLA as the distant second to Georgia.”

Eason plans to start college in January and participate in spring practice with his new school.
