Georgia commit Julian Rochester (Powder Springs, GA) is one of the top players in the country for 2016.

Rated a five-star prospect, Rochester hasn’t been happy with what’s been written about him in the media following a not-so-good performance at recruiting’s most prestigious camp, The Opening. Reports said he showed up out of shape and overweight.

Rochester vented to the Atlanta Journal Constitution recently.

“I laughed,” Rochester told the AJC. “Why am I going to let some 5-foot-2 (recruiting analyst) bother me? Why am I going to let that affect what I got going on at McEachern? Why am I going to let that affect what I got going on at the University of Georgia? Don’t quote me when I get to the NFL. Don’t quote me when I get successful. I’m not letting that bother me at all.”

“I’m not going to let somebody that sits behind a desk all day and has never played a down of football tell me what I can or can’t do. That’s not going to stop me from going to a good school. Don’t call my phone. Don’t say anything to me when I make it and become successful.”

The big-time defensive tackle had a note for his doubters, too.

“Can these people block me? No,” he said. “That’s all I have to say about that. Until they come out on this field and try to block me, then they should stop talking. You can talk all you want, but you won’t come say it to my face. You won’t let me put the facts out there.”

If Rochester plays with that attitude for every play during his senior season, I’d hate to be an opposing player who lines up against the 6-6, 315-pound prospect.

With all that being said, Rochester is still rated as the country’s No. 24 overall player, the No. 7 defensive tackle and the state of Georgia’s No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. And while his overall ranking may have taken a small hit during the camp, there’s plenty of time for him to solidify a higher ranking as signing day nears.

The Bulldogs are building a big-time defensive line class, and Rochester is a main component for the future.
