Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Georgia was interested in University of Virginia quarterback Greyson Lambert, who will graduate in June.

At a Pigskin Preview event in Macon, Ga. on Tuesday, Richt confirmed that the Bulldogs are recruiting Lambert, a Georgia native, although he didn’t say much on the subject.

Georgia, like several of its SEC rivals, has a talent-laden roster that is just lacking a quarterback to pull it together. Lambert, who is currently listed as the Cavaliers’ backup, might be able to provide stability if he were to transfer to Georgia, where he’d be eligible to play immediately. Last year, Lambert played in nine games, completing 59 percent of his passes for 1,632 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Neither Brice Ramsey, last year’s backup, or Faton Bauta was able to grab ahold of the starting job during spring practices, while redshirt freshman Jacob Park sits a distant third in the competition. However, Richt expects to have all three on campus this summer, indicating that none of them plan to transfer.

Is Georgia simply trying to find a placeholder quarterback until top QB recruit Jacob Eason arrives in 2016? Lambert would have two years of eligibility remaining should Georgia bring him in, while Ramsey is a redshirt sophomore and Bauta a junior.

One thing is clear: Georgia is likely going to need steady quarterback play if it is to win the East in 2015, even with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel in the backfield. Richt knows he needs to find it, even if it means going outside the program for help.
