For much of the season, Georgia has found itself in the top half of the Top 25, but the reality of an inferior SEC East has marred the perception of the Bulldogs’ ability to be a realistic playoff contender. But the last two weeks have proved otherwise as the Bulldogs are playing their best football of the season — and all of this without their best player Todd Gurley.

Over the last two games, Georgia hasn’t missed a beat without No. 3 in the backfield. True freshman running back Nick Chubb has had arguably two of the best rushing games in all of college football, totaling 355 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Missouri and Arkansas. Quarterback Hutson Mason isn’t turning the ball over and Jeremy Pruitt’s 3-4 defense looks legitimate and has been a nightmare for opposing offensive lines to stop at the line of scrimmage.

In the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, Georgia is preceded by Oregon, Notre Dame and Michigan State at the 6-9 spots and remains one place ahead of TCU.

Georgia is one of six SEC teams ranked in both polls and one of five SEC teams within the top 10.
