Don’t expect Georgia to name a starting quarterback by the time spring practice concludes April 16.

That was the most significant takeaway from coach Mark Richt’s press conference on Wednesday.

Media favorite Brice Ramsey spent 2014 as a freshman backup to Hutson Mason, completing 24 of 39 passes in limited time. Faton Bauta and Jacob Park are 1b and 1c when spring practice starts March 17, Richt said Wednesday.

Former offensive coordinator Mike Bobo recruited all three quarterbacks and took responsibility for their development up until his recent departure from the team, and Brian Schottenheimer now will get a chance to evaluate the players as he installs his offense.

The goal of this spring isn’t to determine a clear pecking order at quarterback, but rather to get all three players quality reps and get them familiar with the new terminology.

“With the amount of transition and learning going on, I’m not certain we’ll be able to make that determination at that point,” Richt said. “I don’t anticipate or I’m not sitting here saying we’re gonna have to name a No. 1 at the end of spring. I’m not thinking that’s gonna be the case, or that’s a big goal of ours. The big thing is to give these guys opportunities and see how they handle it, and evaluate, and try to make that determination when we get there.”

OTHER BULLDOGS TIDBITS

  • Running backs Keith Marshall and A.J. Turman both are full go entering spring practice after sitting out last season due to injuries.
  • According to the Macon Telegraph, senior Hunter Long and sophomore Isaiah Wynn should compete to replace David Andrews at center, the only (but crucial) change on what was a stellar offensive line last season.
  • Richt has penciled in Reggie Carter and Tim Kimbrough as the starters at inside linebacker, but junior college transfer Chuks Amaechi, UAB transfer Jake Ganus, converted fullback Detric Bing-Dukes and junior Ryne Rankin will get reps during the spring as the team tries to figure out its rotation at the position.
