The University of Georgia announced earlier today explaining that there are no new updates after meeting with the NCAA regarding the situation surrounding Todd Gurley’s eligibility.

However, the official Twitter account of the NCAA sent out a statement of their own explaining the latest developments.

The fact that the NCAA is still waiting for Georgia to send in an official request for Gurley’s reinstatement is interesting. Nothing has been confirmed at this point, but since Georgia did not send in a request, it would be highly unlikely that Gurley is reinstated prior to Saturday’s game against Arkansas.

There is always a chance the NCAA moves swiftly to reinstate Gurley tomorrow like they did with former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton back in 2010, but it’s a slim chance at best.

Gurley, who was suspended a week ago when the investigation began, missed last week’s game against Missouri. Georgia beat the Tigers 34-0 and took control of the SEC East.

Prior to the suspension, most considered Gurley a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. He currently leads the SEC with 773 rushing yards and is second with eight touchdowns. Many consider him the best running back in all of college football and a first-round lock in next year’s NFL Draft.
