No one expected De’Runnya Wilson to bring the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine.

That’s not the former Mississippi State receiver’s game. He’s tall, physical and a makes plays in traffic.

But when 4.90 showed up as the unofficial time on his first attempt during Saturday’s workouts, it did raise some eyebrows.

He settled in at 4.85 for an official time on his second attempt, but that still slotted him as the slowest wide receiver at the Combine by a 0.13 seconds.

Wilson’s day didn’t get any better at the vertical jump, where his 28 inches was also the lowest number for a wide receiver. For comparison, TCU’s Josh Doctson jumped 41 inches.

And while his 113 inches weren’t the worst number in the broad jump, there were just two wide receivers that finished with a lower number.

When you put it all together, it was… not good.

The good news for Wilson as he looks ahead towards the NFL Draft?

He has some tremendous tape from the last two seasons at Mississippi State playing against some of the best defenses in the nation. That definitely counts for something.

He’ll also have an opportunity to make a better impression on scouts during Mississippi State’s pro day on March 10.
