The Mississippi State Bulldogs lead the South Alabama Jaguars 28-3 at halftime in Ladd Peebles Stadium in Mobile, and the success of the Bulldogs’ ground game is a big reason why.

Mississippi State rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, led by Dak Prescott’s 11 carries for 81 yards. Tailback Josh Robinson carried the ball seven times for 41 yards and two touchdowns to play his part in the rushing attack.

To contrast, South Alabama managed just 10 yards on the ground in the first half.

Prescott was 11-of-18 passing for 162 yards and a touchdown through the air in the first half, showing great improvement from last week’s 12-for-25 performance against UAB. Senior wideout Jameon Lewis had his best half of the season to this point, catching five passes for 50 yards against the Jaguars’ defense.

Mississippi State defensive end Preston Smith continued his incredible senior campaign by blocking a South Alabama field goal in the first quarter to maintain what was a shutout at the time. Smith now has two interceptions, two blocked kicks and a return touchdown just 10 quarters into the season.
