The Mississippi State dropped from the top spot in the polls after its first loss of the season. The Bulldogs (9-1, 5-1) fell to No. 4 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 poll after a 25-20 loss on the road to Alabama.

Mississippi State had been ranked No. 1 since the Week 8 polls, the first time in school history the Bulldogs had ascended to the top spot. Where State stands in the playoff picture still remains to be seen. The next set of College Football Playoff rankings comes out on Tuesday; the Bulldogs were ranked No. 1 in the last set of rankings and Alabama was previously ranked No. 5.

The Bulldogs will get a chance to right the ship at home against Vanderbilt next week before their Egg Bowl clash with Ole Miss on Nov. 29.
