Missouri Tigers defensive end Shane Ray has been given a number of awards already this offseason, including SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

However, the SEC’s sack leader missed out on the Ted Hendricks Award, a distinction given to the nation’s top defensive end.

Utah’s Nate Orchard, who was second in the country with 17.5 sacks, took home the award.

According to the press release, the Hendricks Award is given to the nation’s most impressive defensive end based on “on-field performance, leadership abilities and contributions to school and community.”

Orchard became the Pac-12’s second player ever to win the award. Arizona State’s Terrell Suggs won it last in 2002.

There were six finalists overall — Ray, Orchard, Clemson’s Vic Beasley, Ohio State’s Joey Bosa, Washington’s Hau’oli Kikaha and USC’s Leonard Williams.

Ray was seeking to become the SEC’s third player to win the award in the past 13 years. South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney won it in 2012 and Georgia’s David Pollack was a back-to-back winner in 2003 and 2004.
