In preparation for Saturday’s primetime matchup between Ole Miss and Mississippi State, Saturday Down South is taking a look at a key matchup that may decide the showdown between the Rebels and the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State WR De’Runnya Wilson vs. Ole Miss CB Senquez Golson

The Egg Bowl on Saturday will feature arguably one of the top wide receiver-cornerback matchups in all of college football.

Breakout star De’Runnya Wilson leads Mississippi State in receiving, and has become Dak Prescott’s top target with senior Jameon Lewis having missed some time down the stretch. He faces, though, one of the nation’s top corners in Senquez Golson, who has registered a team-leading nine interceptions on the season.

Wilson — a former Mr. Basketball in Alabama — has a significant size advantage over the undersized Golson, but the Ole Miss senior boasts a knack for playing the football.

The Rebels play a mix of man and zone coverage, but expect Golson to spend a lot of time on the outside with Wilson, especially in the red zone. Look for Golson to play underneath with a safety over the top at times, however, Golson will play man-to-man on Wilson during stretches of the game. It’s imperative Golson win some of those matchups.

Mississippi State’s sophomore wideout doesn’t possess breakaway speed, but Wilson is very good at using his size advantage to position himself to make catches.

This dual is arguably one of the best we’ll see in the SEC during Rivalry Week. Keep an eye on Wilson vs. Golson, because the winner of this showdown gives his team a good chance to win.
