After leaving Saturday night’s game against LSU with an ankle injury, it was reported that Ole Miss feared senior linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche had fractured his ankle.

ESPN.com‘s Edward Aschoff reported Monday that Nkemdiche will miss the rest of the season for the Rebels due to the broken ankle. According to Aschoff, Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze confirmed the news to ESPN.com on Monday. Nkemdiche underwent surgery Monday morning.

Nkemdiche suffered the injury during the first quarter of Saturday night’s loss to LSU. However, he was seen walking in a walking boot during the second half.

The senior has 145 career tackles and four sacks. Senior Serderius Bryant — the Rebels leading tackler a year ago — has just four starts this season, but will replace Nkemdiche.

No. 7 (7-1, 4-1) hosts No. 4 Auburn (6-1, 3-1) Saturday night.
