College football has the never-ending, annual debate on which conference is “the best” in the sport. It’s usually between the Power 5 conferences: SEC, Big 12, Big 10, ACC and Pac-12.

In recent years, the ACC has had league-wide efforts to debunk the myth that the SEC West is the best division in college football, mainly since Florida State’s National Championship in 2013.

In a recent article from ESPN, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney stirred the pot again, talking about the success of the ACC conference including last season’s bowl games. Swinney stated, “We’ve won three Orange Bowls in a row, we had 11 bowl teams, we got incredible non-conference wins. Four, five years ago you all used to ask me, ‘When are y’all going to beat somebody outside your conference?’ None of you ask me that anymore. The Atlantic Division had more draft picks than any division in college football. I don’t hear that being written about anymore. We’re still going to talk about some other division in college football. This mighty division. The fact of the matter is this league is incredibly strong.”

Other ACC coaches are definitely on his side, as Georgia Tech’s head coach Paul Johnson said after his team’s Orange Bowl victory over Mississippi State, “For at least a week or two, we don’t have to hear about the SEC.”

Forget team-against-team rivalries, the ACC and SEC are beginning to have a conference rivalry that has an excellent chance of sticking around for a long time with recent conference realignments.

In 2015, there are two non-conference matchups between ACC and SEC teams that Swinney, and coaches from both conferences, will at the very least be keeping mental notes on. The Louisville Cardinals face the Auburn Tigers, while LSU travels to the Carrier Dome to play Syracuse.

According to TiqIQ.com, LSU Tigers tickets vs. Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on September 26 have an average ticket price of $209.54 with a get-in price of $63. Louisville plays Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A-Kickoff on September 9 as the inaugural game of the college football season. The average ticket price for that contest is $312.09 with a get-in price of $91 for entrance into the Georgia Dome.

For those who can’t attend these non-conference matches that will add fuel to the fire between coaches, DISH Sports Packages include the SEC Network for fans of any conference. Whether it’s to watch the SEC teams lose in games they are “supposed to win,” or it’s for SEC supporters to remind the world their conference won the National Championship seven straight seasons from 2006-2012, US DISH will provide any and all SEC coverage.

These early-season matchups are just an appetizer for when ACC and SEC teams square up when it matters most—the bowl season. Whether it’s in the four-team College Football Playoff or one of the many prestigious bowl games the sport offers, this conference rivalry isn’t a flash-in-the-pan trend and will be something to keep track of for years to come.
