Ole Miss’ 38-point win over Vanderbilt wasn’t convincing enough for poll voters?

UCLA at No. 12 after escaping … again?

Here’s how Sunday’s Associated Press Top 25 should’ve looked based on Week 2 performances. We’ve included the original rankings for comparison.

And here’s how it should’ve looked based on Week 2 performances

1. Oregon (2-0) — The Ducks scored 28 unanswered points to derail Michigan State after coach Mark Helfrich realized running the football against a stout defense wasn’t going to work. Marcus Mariota staked his claim in the Heisman race with three more touchdowns and no turnovers.
2. USC (2-0) — Pat Haden’s conversation with officials received most of the pub, but it looks like the Trojans have returned to the elite very quickly under Steve Sarkisian.
3. Alabama (2-0) — Quarterback Blake Sims played well, Amari Cooper dominated and the Crimson Tide defense posted a rather easy shutout of Florida Atlantic.
4. Florida State (2-0) — Don’t let Jameis Winston’s early pedestrian numbers fool you — the sophomore quarterback completed 19 of 20 passes at point in Saturday’s game and exited with a 34-point lead.
5. Auburn (2-0) — Gus Malzahn’s relentess ground game picks up yards in chunks once again during a beating of San Jose State.
6. Georgia (1-0) — The only opposition that could slow down Todd Gurley was a bye week.
7. Oklahoma (2-0) — Faster, stronger and more athletic than Tulsa, the Sooners rolled off nearly 400 yards of offense in the first half on their way to a second straight convincing victory.
8. Notre Dame (2-0) — Michigan’s FBS record streak for consecutive games without being shutout came to an end in South Bend, one of Brian Kelly’s finer wins with the Fighting Irish.
9. Texas A&M (2-0) — Kenny Hill’s workload was light, but it didn’t matter as the Aggies piled on the points against Lamar.
10. LSU (2-0) — A hard-hitting night game in Baton Rouge, the Tigers blanked Sam Houston State and Leonard Fournette scored his first collegiate touchdown.
11. Baylor (2-0) — Without Heisman candidate quarterback Bryce Petty, the Bears still managed to hang 70 points on Northwestern State.
12. Ole Miss (2-0) — The Rebels still feel they’re being disrespected as a SEC West also-ran. That’s not the case when Bo Wallace plays well.
13. Virginia Tech (2-0) — From unranked to No. 13, the Hokies pushed Ohio State out of the Top 25 with a season-changing victory at the Horseshoe.
14. Michigan State (1-1) — Sparty dropped several spots, but remains one notch ahead of Stanford after a ‘quality’ road loss to a Top 5 team.
15. Stanford (1-1) — David Shaw’s group let a pivotal PAC-12 battle slip out of their grasp at home against the Trojans.
16. Arizona State (2-0) — The Sun Devils will have a say out west this fall and have scored 103 points in two games.
17. Mizzou (2-0) — Maty Mauk’s career-high six total touchdowns fueled the Tigers to a quality non-conference win away from home.
18. Florida (1-0) — No one expected 65 points in offensive coordinator Kurt Roper’s debut, but there’s reason to be excited in Gainesville.
19. Louisville (2-0) — Bobby Petrino’s athletic squad scored on seven first-half possessions after punting on their first drive against Murray State.
20. Wisconsin (1-1) — One of the Big Ten’s best teams got back on track behind three touchdown passes from Tanner McEvoy.
21. Clemson (1-1) — A quick glance at the box score is all you need to know as the Tigers rebounded in a big way post-Georgia.
22. Kansas State (2-0) — The Wildcats came from behind in their Big XII opener to down Iowa State, 32-28.
23. BYU (2-0) — There’s always a lesser-known Heisman finalist sitting front row in New York. Taysum Hill could be that player this season after a three-touchdown effort against Texas.
24. UCLA (2-0) — I’m not a believer in the preseason PAC-12 darlings who have beaten their first two opponents — Virginia and Memphis — by a combined 15 points.
25. Tennessee (2-0) — Can the Vols contend in the SEC East this season now that South Carolina has appeared destined to take a step back? Quarterback Justin Worley’s playing with confidence for the first time in his career.

Dropped out: Ohio State; SEC’s receiving votes: South Carolina, Mississippi State, Kentucky.
