From DT Trent Thompson (of Albany, Ga.; No. 1 overall) to TE Zordan Holman (of Portland, Maine; No. 2,772 overall), the skill levels vary, but all 50 United States have at least one standout football player.

Who is the best of the 2015 class from every state, and where are they going to play college football?

(OK, so Alaska and Vermont are not so big on the gridiron. Reached via Twitter by a reporter from the Tulsa World on Wednesday, DT Archie Lemana of Anchorage, Alaska, confirmed that he hasn’t yet signed with a school to play football, and it’s unclear if he will. Information on any possible signing for QB Austin Robinson of Middleburry, Vt., wasn’t available as of Wednesday, but he did win multiple state player of the year awards.)

Here are a few other tidbits:

  • Several teams poached the best player from multiple states, including Ohio State (5 different states), Alabama (3), Missouri (3), Notre Dame (3), Michigan (3), USC (2), Nebraska (2), Clemson (2), Pitt (2), UConn (2), Tennessee (2) and Washington (2).
  • The Tide (Alabama, Kentucky, New Jersey) and Tigers (Kansas, Illinois, Missouri) put their SEC division titles to good use outside the borders of their states.
  • Florida accounted for five of the Top 10 players in the 2015 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. California can claim two of the Top 10, with Georgia, Virginia and Texas splitting the others.
  • By position, the best players by state play at DE (9), DT (7), WR (4), G (4), CB (4), LB (4), TE (4), QB (3), ATH (3), OT (3), WR (2), RB (2) and C (1).

Editor’s note: We used the 247Sports Composite rankings to determine the best player from each state.
