Looking ahead to this week’s slate of games, each SEC team playing will have a lot riding on their respective matchups, especially as the season comes closer and closer to the end.

Here is the biggest storyline for each SEC team heading into Week 10.

Alabama — Coming off a well-earned road win, the Alabama Crimson Tide have a bye week this weekend before traveling to LSU. Despite the loss to Ole Miss, Alabama continues to look like one of the strongest one-loss teams in college football and will have a great shot at making the inaugural College Football Playoff.

Arkansas — For the Razorbacks, the name of the game is getting an SEC win. This team’s struggles in conference play have been well-documented and head coach Bret Bielema is desperately looking for that first SEC win. This week against Mississippi State might not be the best opportunity for that victory, but an upset in Starkville, Miss., against the No. 1 team in the country sure would turn some heads.

Auburn — In one of the most entertaining games of the season thus far, Auburn outlasted a pesky South Carolina team last week. This weekend, the Tigers are rewarded with a trip to Ole Miss in a top-10 matchup. The biggest question for Auburn will be how the Tigers’ high-powered offense gameplans for the Rebels’ shutdown defense. Both units are arguably the best in their respective areas and it’ll be interesting to see which group wins the battle.

Florida — This is it for Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators. If his fate isn’t already sealed yet, this weekend will certainly sway it one way or the other. Simply put, the Gators and Muschamp just need a win. True freshman quarterback Treon Harris will get his first start this weekend and will try to turnaround the Gators’ misfortunes so far this season.

Georgia — Fresh off a bye week, Georgia faces Florida in The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville, Fla. The Bulldogs are playing their best football of the season and shouldn’t have too much trouble with the Gators this weekend. However, records rarely matter in rivalry games such as this one. Until game day, UGA fans will eagerly await the NCAA ruling on Todd Gurley and whether he’ll be available or if he’ll miss his third consecutive game.

Kentucky — Two straight conference losses have damaged UK’s hopes of a magical run in the SEC, but the Wildcats have a great opportunity to make up some ground in the division with a matchup against Missouri this week. A win in Columbia will keep the Cats’ chances alive in the SEC East.

LSU — LSU has strung together several quality wins and now are nearly a top-15 ranked team after being unranked just three weeks ago. They’ll have a bye week this week before a huge game against Alabama at home.

Mississippi State — The No. 1 team in the country keeps rolling along. The Bulldogs are a virtual lock for the No. 1 spot in the first CFP poll this week and will be tested this weekend against Arkansas. Last week’s game versus UK was the program’s first game as a No. 1 ranked team and Dan Mullen’s squad passed the test with flying colors. Can they do the same this week and hold off a pesky Arkansas team?

Missouri — The Tigers may have won last week, but a 10-point win against lowly Vanderbilt at home is anything but satisfying. Quarterback Maty Mauk was turnover free, but still didn’t throw for 200 yards. The offense as a whole continues to lack explosiveness and could be a real issue going forward for Missouri as they face off against more of the talented teams at the back end of its schedule.

Ole Miss — Well, it turns out Ole Miss isn’t invincible this season. The Rebels suffered their first loss of the season in a defensive shootout, of all things, against LSU. It doesn’t get any easier for Ole Miss with Auburn coming to town and everyone will get an opportunity to see what this Ole Miss team is really made of as they are forced to bounce back from a defeat for the first time this season.

South Carolina — The Gamecocks nearly pulled off the upset against No. 5 Auburn last week, but defense and missed opportunities on offense cost them. Spurrier continues to have confidence in the defense, but one must wonder how much patience he’ll have if the issues keep continuing until the end of the season. Tennessee comes into town this week as South Carolina looks to build some momentum heading into the latter portion of its schedule.

Tennessee — Despite playing its third-string quarterback most of the game, Tennessee stayed competitive with Alabama, losing 34-20. Quarterback Josh Dobbs was the star for the Vols as his dual-threat abilities really added some life to Tennessee’s offense. Senior Justin Worley will see if he can come back from injury this week, but if he can’t, it’ll likely be Dobbs who will look to build off last week’s surprisingly positive performance and give Tennessee its first SEC win of the season.

Texas A&M — After three straight losses and a bye week, the Aggies are dealt a cupcake opponent to come back to with UL Monroe. The offense has looked out of whack during this losing streak, so it’ll be important for Texas A&M not only to regain it’s offensive production against the Warhawks, but also its swagger. They’ll need both before playing Auburn on the road in two weeks.

Vanderbilt — The Commodores kept it close against Missouri, but were once again shut out of a SEC victory. Things have looked bleak this season for Vandy with the program’s only two wins this season coming against FCS schools. There was one bright spot for the Commodores last weekend in quarterback Johnny McCrary. The freshman signal caller threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns in just his first ever collegiate start. It appears Vandy may have finally found its starting quarterback.
