This is part of a daily series this week on each SEC team’s bowl possibilities and likely destination in prep for Sunday’s College Football Bowl Selection Show.

LSU’s streak of four consecutive seasons of 10 or more wins is over, but the Tigers likely improved their bowl placement on Thanksgiving Night with an impressive win at Texas A&M, a vintage performance characterized by their strength at the line of scrimmage.

Ranked 13th in the preseason, LSU finished fourth in the ultra-competitive SEC West, nearly knocking off the division’s top two teams Mississippi State and Alabama. This season’s lowpoint was the shutout loss at Arkansas on Nov. 15, one that knocked the Tigers out of the Top 25.

For the next month in preparation for their final game, the Tigers will try and avoid the distraction of ever-present coaching rumors with Les Miles being linked to the opening at Michigan. The Wolverines have twice courted their former player whose been at the top of Big Blue’s list for several years.

Miles said publicly he hopes to stay in Baton Rouge ’10 more years’ in July at SEC Media Days.

Possible bowl destinations

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva has been outspoken about his program’s preferred bowl placement and recently said a projected trip to Charlotte for the Belk Bowl ‘wouldn’t make much sense’ due to proximity. With eight wins and known to travel well, the Tigers have all but locked in a ‘pool of six’ matchup with Jacksonville, Memphis or Charlotte being possible destinations.

Of those three, the TaxSlayer Bowl in Florida would be the most attractive invite against an opponent from the ACC or Big Ten.

Final bowl pairings will be announced on Sunday.
