Former Mizzou wideout Dorial Green-Beckham, who tied for the SEC lead in touchdown receptions as a sophomore in 2013, is being compared to Detroit Lions standout Calvin Johnson at the NFL Scouting Combine this week thanks to a 6-foot-5, 237-pound frame and natural ability.

He’s got a long way to go, especially off the field, before measuring up to those expectations.

Green-Beckham was dismissed by the university last April after allegedly pushing a female student down at least four stairs at her apartment. He sat out this season after transferring to Oklahoma before making a decision to enter the draft.

“This decision was made with the best interests of all involved in mind,” Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel said in a statement. “Dorial’s priority going forward needs to be focusing on getting the help he needs. As we have all along, we will continue to do everything we can to assist Dorial and his family. We care deeply about Dorial and his well-being, but hopefully he can benefit from a fresh start.”

Prior to that incident, Green-Beckham had a pair of marijuana-related arrests. He briefly addressed his off-the-field transgressions on Thursday.

Alabama’s Amari Cooper, widely-considered the SEC’s top wideout from this year’s crop, will workout Saturday along with 44 other pass-catching hopefuls. Only three wide receivers during Thursday’s measuring day had bigger hands than Cooper’s 10-inch mitts.

Most mock drafts have Cooper being selected by the Oakland Raiders fourth overall.

Cooper has followed an intense workout plan since the season, evidenced by his ability to do superhuman pull-ups recently on Instagram.
