Every spring, quarterback guru Steve Clarkson holds a two-day Memorial Day Trendsetters Camp in Coronado, Calif., and invites the nation’s best high school quarterbacks to compete and develop prior to the start of their senior seasons.

A number of potential future SEC quarterbacks took part in this year’s camp, including Ole Miss five-star signee Shea Patterson, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2016 class according to Scout.com. Those in attendance almost universally agree Patterson was the best quarterback on display this weekend, but that doesn’t mean he was the only quarterback who impressed.

Take a look at what Scout’s Greg Biggins had to say about each of the SEC prospects in attendance.

Patterson (Shreveport, La.) — 5-stars, committed to Ole Miss:

“Even with a loaded group of quarterbacks, Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist quarterback Shea Patterson had the best day on Saturday and it wasn’t close. Patterson even wowed the college counselors on hand and showed why he’s rated a top 10 player nationally and the No. 1 QB in the country.

“Patterson had the quickest release in the camp, threw the most accurate ball, and the ball just explodes out of his hand. He has some of the quickest feet you’ll see in his drops and roll outs and he throws one of the tightest balls we’ve seen in awhile. He’s also a big time competitor and never takes a rep off.”

Tate Martell (Las Vegas, Nev.) — 4-stars, considering Alabama and Texas A&M:

“Right behind Patterson was Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman ’17 athlete Tate Martell. Like Patterson, Martell is a highly competitive kid and always practices like he’s playing in a championship game. His mobility has been well documented but he doesn’t get enough credit for his arm strength.

“People see his 5-10 frame and assume he’s just a dink and dunk quarterback but he has a very live arm, can really spin it and has the ability to roll out, set and throw as good as anyone in the country. He understands when to take something off, shows great touch on the deep ball and continues to improve overtime we see him.”

Shawn Robinson (Denton, Tex.) — 5-stars, considering Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss:

“There was a bit of a drop off after Patterson and Martell but ’17 Denton (Texas) Guyer quarterback Shawn Robinson showed a lot of upside. He has a very athletic body and is a true dual threat quarterback. He’s still raw in some areas but has all the physical tools you could want in a young quarterback. He has a strong arm and will improve his accuracy as he refines his mechanics a bit and can repeat his release point more consistently.”

Feleipe Franks (Crawfordville, Fla.) — 4-stars, committed to LSU:

“Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla quarterback Feleipe Franks is a tall, strong armed quarterback who got better as the camp went on. He can be a little deliberate at times and when he doesn’t set his feet, his ball tends to sail on him but his upside is obvious. He has a smooth, easy throwing motion and can change speeds as well. Franks has a big personality and is a natural leader as well.”
