When it comes from SEC legend Herschel Walker, people listen.

The former Georgia great took in the Bulldogs’ spring practice Thursday and liked what he saw from rising sophomore Nick Chubb, the SEC’s top returning rusher and the focal point of what’s expected to be a high-powered ground game in Athens.

“This kid came on as a freshman and just think if he had started the whole season, what he would have done. That’s what’s so amazing,” Walker said according to the Macon Telegraph. “One thing I like about him, the game is over, practice is over, and the kid is still out there working out.

“That’s just the sign of a good athlete. That’s a sign that he’s doing things he needs to get done.”

Georgia’s all-time leading rusher and the 1982 Heisman winner gushed over Chubb’s work ethic and ability to shoulder the rushing load despite the Bulldogs’ considerably deep backfield featuring Keith Marshall and Sony Michel.

In three collegiate seasons, Walker managed 5,259 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns. If Chubb stays healthy and hits the pace he set during his freshman campaign over the next two years, he’ll finish shy of both marks.

Could Chubb be a four-year starter for the Bulldogs and surpass Walker’s records? It’s doubtful considering the shelf life for running backs in the NFL.
