Which team will lead the SEC in sacks, tackles-for-losses and disruptive plays this season?

Your guess is as good as mine.

The league’s blessed with talent this fall within the front seven defensively with several teams unleashing potential future first-round picks without regard for opposing quarterbacks.

In no particular order, here’s a look at some of the best pass-rushing duos the SEC has in its arsenal heading into August …

DE Marquis Haynes and DT Robert Nkemdiche, Ole Miss — The more film we watch, the more we’re impressed with what Nkemdiche was able to do last season despite constant double teams and stunts at the line of scrimmage. The numbers don’t reveal Nkemdiche’s true impact as a bull-rush force in the middle. Haynes steps into a full-time starter role this fall and is looking to build on nine TFL and his school-record 7.5 sacks as a freshman last season.

DE Derek Barnett and LB Curt Maggitt, Tennessee — Label Maggitt what you want as a hybrid defender at linebacker and end, all we know is that he makes plays and is almost always in the right position in pursuit of opposing ballcarriers. He’s an ideal complement to SEC tackles-for-loss leader Barnett, a man among boys at the line of scrimmage. Barnett’s numbers could increase this season with the addition of touted tackles Kahlil McKenzie and Shy Tuttle.

DE Jonathan Allen and DT A’Shawn Robinson, Alabama — Is this the best front seven Nick Saban’s had with the Crimson Tide? He was asked that question during ESPN’s ‘Car Wash’ segment on SportsCenter this week and provided a coachspeak answer, but it very well could be. The league’s only program to be represented by two defensive linemen on the preseason first and second teams, Alabama’s expecting All-American caliber campaigns out of both Allen and Robinson. Defensive end  Jarran Reed’s another player who will fill the stat sheet for Kirby Smart.

DE Myles Garrett and DT Daylon Mack, Texas A&M — John Chavis can thank his lucky stars that he’ll get this tandem at least two more seasons in College Station before Garrett likely hops to the NFL spring 2017. A natural talent off the edge for the Aggies last season as a true freshman, Garrett led the West with 11.5 sacks and moved closer to becoming a complete player by the end of November. Mack’s another five-star signee who will make a substantial impact in his first season.

LB Leonard Floyd and LB Lorenzo Carter, Georgia — Looks a little weird labeling two linebackers as a pass-rushing duo doesn’t it? Jeremy Pruitt will feast with that idea this fall, unleashing two expert edge rushers who will be future NFL linebackers when he sees fit. We haven’t even mentioned senior linebacker Jordan Jenkins who could be better than both after working on his footwork and eliminating wasted movements this offseason. It’s important to point out defensive tackle Trent Thompson too, the nation’s top defensive player in the 2015 class. Georgia’s pass rush should be an incredible annoyance for the opposition this season.

DE Carl Lawson and DT Montravius Adams, Auburn — Getting Lawson back from injury will be a Godsend for the Tigers who struggled with consistency in pressure situations last fall. Adams, now under a leadership role inside, seemed to take to the coaching staff’s challenge of becoming more aggressive and physical this spring. Sprinkle in five-star freshman Byron Cowart with these two quarterback harassers and Will Muschamp has the ideal three-headed monster up front defensively.

DT Chris Jones and DE Ryan Brown, Mississippi State — When Brown walked into the small room at media days, he looked like he could star in the NBA at forward thanks to his sheer size at 6-foot-6, nearly 270 pounds. He’s the ideal edge-rushing beast SEC defensive coordinators love to have anchoring a disruptive front seven. Paired with Jones who is equally massive on the interior as a former five-star, Brown could be one of the SEC’s breakout starts as a senior for the Bulldogs this season.
