In a statement released by the SEC, conference teams will now include a new uniform patch — recognizing student-athletes who’ve earned their undergraduate degree.

For those players who’ve already received their degree, the current SEC logo patch on their uniforms will now be replaced by a unique patch including the word “Graduate” below the conference logo.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey delved into this new alteration to the uniforms:

“The concept of ‘Scholars, Champions and Leaders’ is a vision for comprehensive success across the SEC and our SEC Graduate patch now recognizes the student-athletes in our league who have achieved the goal of graduation. This patch appropriately celebrates academic accomplishment in the athletic arena. My congratulations to those student-athletes who have earned this honor.”

All sports across the conference’s footprint will now be utilizing these new emblems. It was first worn by the Arkansas football team during the opening game of the 2016 season.

The patch will be school-specific in regards to the program’s color.
