Bowl season is fast approaching and the SEC has 10 teams playing during the holidays. Nine of the 10 are favored in their games – only Florida is an underdog against Michigan – so there’s talk that maybe the powerful SEC will run the table.

Don’t count on it.

Since the SEC expanded in 1992, there has been only one season when the league won all of their bowl games. That was in 1996 when they went 5-0. They’ve come close a few other times, going 5-1 in 1992 and 1997. Every other year they’ve lost at least twice.

And the other side? The SEC has only had two losing seasons in that time frame, going 2-4 in 1995 and 3-4 in 2002. Other than that, it’s been smooth sailing.

Here’s what the SEC has done in bowl games since 1992, the year it expanded (Arkansas, South Carolina) and split into two divisions:

1992 (5-1 record, .833 winning %): Best win – Alabama beat Miami 34-13 in Sugar Bowl. Worst loss – North Carolina beat Mississippi State 21-17 in Peach Bowl.

1993 (2-2 record, .500 winning %): Best win – Florida beat West Virginia 41-7 in the Sugar Bowl. Worst loss – Penn State beat Tennessee 31-13 in the Citrus Bowl.

1994 (3-2 record, .600 winning %): Best win – Alabama beat Ohio State 24-17 in the Citrus Bowl. Worst loss – Florida State beat Florida 23-17.

1995 (2-4 record, .333 winning %) Best win – Tennessee beat Ohio State 20-14 in the Citrus Bowl. Worst loss –  Nebraska beat Florida 62-24 in the Fiesta Bowl.

1996 (5-0 record, 1.000 winning %) Best win – Florida beat Florida State 52-20 in the Sugar Bowl. Worst loss – None.

1997 (5-1 record, .833 winning %) Best win –LSU beat Notre Dame 27-9 in the Independence Bowl. Worst loss – Nebraska beat Tennessee 42-17 in the Orange Bowl.

1998 (4-4 record, .500 winning %) Best win – Tennessee beat Florida State 23-16 in the Fiesta Bowl. Worst loss – Virginia  Tech beat Alabama 38-7 in the Music City Bowl.

1999 (4-4 record, .500 winning %) Best win – Arkansas beat Texas 27-6 in the Cotton Bowl. Worst loss – Nebraska beat Tennessee 31-21 in the Fiesta Bowl.

2000 (4-4 record, .500 winning %) Best win – South Carolina beat Ohio State 24-7 in the Outback Bowl. Worst loss – Miami beat Florida 37-20 in the Sugar Bowl.

2001 (5-3 record, .625 winning %) Best win – Florida beat Maryland 56-23 in the Orange Bowl. Worst loss – Oklahoma beat Arkansas 10-3 in the Cotton Bowl.

2002 (3-4 record, .429 winning %) Best win – Georgia beat Florida State 26-13 in the Sugar Bowl. Worst loss – Maryland beat Tennessee 30-3 in the Peach Bowl.

2003 (5-2 record, .714 winning %) Best win – LSU beat Oklahoma 21-14 in the Sugar Bowl. Worst loss – Iowa beat Florida 37-17 in the Outback Bowl.

2004 (3-3 record, .500 winning %) Best win – Tennessee beat Texas A&M* 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl. Worst loss – Miami beat Florida 27-10 in the Peach Bowl.

2005 (3-3 record, .500 winning %) Best win – LSU beat Miami 40-3 in the Peach Bowl. Worst loss – Wisconsin beat Auburn 24-10 in the Capital One Bowl.

2006 (6-3 record, .667 winning %) Best win – Florida beat Ohio State 41-14 in BCS National Championship Game. Worst loss – Penn State beat Tennessee 20-10 in the Outback Bowl.

2007 (7-2 record, .778 winning %) Best win – LSU beat Ohio State  38-24 in the BCS National Championship Game. Worst loss – Missouri* beat Arkansas 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl.

2008 (6-2 record, .750 winning %) Best win – Florida beat Oklahoma 24-14 in the BCS National Championship Game. Worst loss – Utah beat Alabama 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl.

2009 (6-4 record, .600 winning %) Best win – Alabama beat Texas 37-21 in the BCS National Championship Game. Worst loss – Connecticut beat South Carolina 20-7 in the PapaJohns Bowl.

2010 (5-5 record, .500 winning %) Best win – Auburn beat Oregon 22-19 in the BCS National Championship Game. Worst loss – Pittsburgh beat Kentucky 27-10 in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

2011  (6-3 record, .667 winning %) Best win – Alabama beat LSU 21-0 in the BCS National Championship Game. Worst loss – Same. Sorry, LSU.

2012 (6-3 record, .667 winning %) Best win – Alabama beat Notre Dame 42-14 in the BCS National Championship Game. Worst loss – Louisville beat Florida 33-23 in the Sugar Bowl.

2013 (7-3 record, .700 winning %) Best win – Vanderbilt beat Houston 41-24 in the BBVA Compass Bowl. Worst loss – Florida State beat Auburn 34-31 in BCS National Championship Game. Honorable Mention: Oklahoma beat Alabama 45-31 in the Sugar Bowl.

2014  (7-5 record, .583 winning %) Best win – Arkansas beat Texas 31-7 in the AdvoCare Texas Bowl. Worst loss – Ohio State beat Alabama 42-35 in the College Football Playoff.

*Missouri and Texas A&M weren’t yet members of the SEC. They joined in 2012.
