SEC WEEK 4 NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

QUARTERBACKS

  • Blake Sims, Alabama (23-33, 445 yards passing, 4 TD, INT vs. Florida) — Can we stop talking about Jacob Coker now? Sims’ explosion in Saturday’s game sent a ripple through the SEC that the Crimson Tide no longer has a question mark at the quarterback position. Nearly flawless against what was projected to be one of the league’s top defenses, Sims came up just short of setting a new single-game school record for passing yards and directed the Alabama offense with precision and poise. For his efforts, Sims was awarded the Walter Camp National Player of the Week honor.
  • Dak Prescott, Mississippi State (15-24, 268 yards passing, 2 TD; 105 yards rushing, TD at LSU) — Prescott detonated the door off the SEC West with a game to remember at Tiger Stadium. The league’s best kept secret rose into the realm of elite quarterbacks after showcasing his dual threat abilities. Prescott went over 100 yards rushing for the third straight game and torched the LSU secondary with 268 yards and a couple touchdowns.

RUNNING BACKS

  • Josh Robinson, Mississippi State (16 carries, 197 yards, TD at LSU) — Robinson’s third career 100-yard game came in his biggest start and helped the Bulldogs snap a 16-game losing skid against ranked teams. Robinson ran hard inside and out, helping Mississippi State pummel the SEC’s stingiest defense.
  • Sony Michel, Georgia (10 carries, 155 yards, 3 TD vs. Troy) — The competition was light, but this true freshman torched the Troy defense in relief of Todd Gurley.

WIDE RECEIVERS

  • Amari Cooper, Alabama (10 catches, 201 yards, 3 TD vs. Florida) — Cooper’s Heisman campaign continued with a career-high 201 yards receiving, very impressive considering Florida’s focus throughout the week on shutting down Alabama’s No. 1 option in the passing game. His second touchdown,  a 4-yard fade over the top of Vernon Hargreaves, set the school record for career scoring receptions.
  • Pharoh Cooper, South Carolina (10 catches, 114 yards; 2 carries, 74 yards at Vanderbilt) — The Gamecocks needed a career-best outing from Cooper to stave off the upset-minded Commodores in Nashville. Cooper’s 70-yard scamper with five minutes remaining set up a 1-yard touchdown run that sealed the win.
