It’s never too soon to look ahead, especially when it comes to recruiting.

SEC programs pride themselves on producing top pass rushing talent, but that talent has to come from somewhere. The best teams like to lock up these type of players early in the recruiting process, and there are already plenty of top defensive ends from the Class of 2016 committed to SEC programs.

There are still plenty of uncommitted players left, as well as plenty of time remaining in the 2016 recruiting cycle, but it’s worth examining the Top 5 defensive end commits so far for the SEC.

1. Chauncey Manac (Homerville, Ga.) — Georgia commit

  • The skinny: The Georgia native is considered a hard commit for the Bulldogs. At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, Manac will have to bulk up to get early playing time along Georgia’s line, but he has the athletic ability to come in for blitz packages from the go. He impressed in a recent Rivals combine in Atlanta, going up against future SEC offensive linemen. Just about every SEC team wanted Manac but, luckily for Bulldogs fans, he’s staying home.

2. Charles Wiley (Stockbridge, Ga.) — Ole Miss commit

  • The skinny: He’s known as “The Beast” in the Georgia prep scene for how he’s able to blow up opposing backfields, and Wiley’s Hudl highlights certainly prove as much. Wiley, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound Ole Miss commit who projects as a weak-side end, is the 11th-ranked defensive end in the Class of 2016, according to Rivals. He committed to the Rebels in late March and looks to become the next big pass rusher in Mississippi’s recent conquest of the position.

3. Glen Logan (Destrehan, La.) — LSU commit

  • The skinny: This video shows Logan working up the interior as a defensive tackle, but Logan should feature nicely as an end for LSU should new defensive coordinator Kevin Steele ever implement the 3-4. Les Miles has got to be excited about Logan’s playmaking ability, as the Louisiana player clearly has good enough hands to pull down a few interceptions.

4. Mark Jackson Jr. (Cibolo, Texas) — Texas A&M commit

  • The skinny: Jackson committed to the Aggies a few months back during his unofficial visit to College Station, but 247 still considers Oklahoma and Texas in the mix for this Top 20 in-state player. Late offers are also coming in for the projected weak-side end from elsewhere in the country, including Notre Dame, Arizona State and SEC rival Arkansas. Given his 29 tackles for loss last season, the Aggies will want to hold on to Jackson.

5. Khalid Kareem (Farmington, Mi.) — Alabama commit

  • The skinny: The only player on this list who projects mostly as a strong-side end, Kareem is wanted by just about every program in the country. A 6-foot-4, 260 pound senior, Kareem committed to the Crimson Tide in the end of June but had made unofficial visits across the SEC in the weeks leading up. There are doubts of if Alabama will actually get Kareem, as 247 predicts the Michigan native will stay in-state and sign with Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
