Perhaps the biggest strength for South Carolina this season is at the offensive skill positions, and ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill took note of that on Friday in previewing Saturday’s game against N.C. State on The Paul Finebaum Show.

Luginbill said the three weapons on the perimeter, receivers Bryan Edwards and Deebo Samuel and the “most unheralded” tight end Hayden Hurst. Luginbill said Hurst would be a huge mismatch problem for N.C. State, and the Gamecocks’ offense overall is going to be “borderline outstanding.”

“One of the things that has made Jake Bentley so remarkable offensively for the Gamecocks is he’s completing a staggering 50 percent of his passes that travel at least 20 yards in the air,” Luginbill said of the South Carolina quarterback. “That’s unheard of. That means a lot of explosive plays could be coming the way of the Gamecocks and that’s something N.C. State has got to be careful of.”

While South Carolina will have an improved offensive line to face N.C. State’s strength, its front seven, there are concerns for the Gamecocks. Luginbill said he wonders if South Carolina is deep enough on defense. And while linebacker Skai Moore’s return brings an “instinctive leader,” the depth during the mid-afternoon game will be a factor.

The versatile Wolfpack offense may be able to “out-scheme” the Gamecocks, and that’s why Luginbill said he’s, “concerned for the South Carolina defense.”

The game is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday at Bank of American Stadium in Charlotte.
