The Venue: Williams-Brice Stadium
The Kick: 7 p.m. ET

Series record: 2-2

Last meeting: Trailing by 17 points in the fourth quarter, quarterback Connor Shaw entered the game for South Carolina and led the Gamecocks on a spirited comeback, sealed in the second overtime when Mizzou’s Andrew Baggett missed a game-tying field goal off the left upright. South Carolina’s the only team Mizzou hasn’t beaten since entering the SEC.

Coaches: Gary Pinkel (178-101-3 overall); Steve Spurrier (222-80-2 overall).

Last game (Missouri): The Tigers’ unbeaten streak to start the season ended at three with a home loss to Indiana, the Hoosiers’ first win over a ranked non-conference team in 10 years. Mizzou’s consecutive games streak with a turnover was also snapped at 47.

Last game (South Carolina): The preseason East favorite avoided a cataclysmic loss at Vanderbilt with 21 points in the fourth quarter. The Gamecocks gave up two kick returns for touchdowns, causing Steve Spurrier to call the win ’embarrassing’ after the game.

Missouri wins if: Maty Mauk avoids mistakes at the quarterback position and a strong front seven stifles South Carolina’s run game. Linebacker Markus Golden is expected to playing after missing last week’s game with a hamstring injury.

South Carolina wins if: Issues on special teams and in the secondary are cleared up prior to kickoff. The Gamecocks are the SEC’s worst against the pass and woes in the kicking game nearly cost the nation’s 13th-ranked team last time out in Nashville.

What it means if Missouri wins: The East becomes quite clouded and the defending champion regains momentum heading into a pivotal stretch of games against conference competition.

What it means if South Carolina wins: The Gamecocks have just two difficult games remaining on the schedule — at Auburn, at Florida — to secure a bid to Atlanta. A loss essentially eliminates South Carolina from the division race with two league losses.
