South Carolina landed a top 10 prospect in the Palmetto State with a commitment from Bryce Thompson.

Though listed as a wide receiver by 247Sports, Thompson could play defense in college, and was playing on both sides of the ball in this week’s Shrine Bowl practices, The State reported, the annual high school all-star game between North Carolina and South Carolina.

Thompson is rated the No. 7 player in South Carolina, and the 20th commit for South Carolina, which has a class ranked No. 6 in the SEC and No. 18 in the country.

He’s 6-feet, 180-pounds and from Irmo, S.C.’s Dutch Fork High School.

Thompson, a 3-star prospect, had nine offers and was a Virginia Tech commitment until he decommitted this summer.

Thompson announced the news on Twitter with a highlight video that ends with dramatic images of Williams-Brice Stadium. As recently as Monday, he told The State that he was still debating between signing in December or February.
