South Carolina star linebacker Skai Moore has been cleared to begin training for the 2017 season, according to GreenvilleOnline.com.

Moore, who received a medical redshirt after undergoing surgery for a herniated disc in his neck this spring, was the team’s leader tackler the last three years (260 in career) and was a member of the All-SEC second team in 2015.

“(See him) every day,” coach Will Muschamp said. “He was cleared Monday or Tuesday of last week. I’m not positive on the exact date, but he’s running, he’s lifting. He’s spending a lot of time in the weight room. That was one of the things…the good Lord works in mysterious ways in why things happen to us. I told Skai, ‘we’ve got to get stronger. We’ve got to get more girth on our body. We’ve got to continue to keep our athleticism, our change of direction and instinct for the ball, all those things that God’s blessed you with. We’ve got to get bigger, we’ve got to get stronger, we’ve got to get more powerful.’

“So now, he’s been able to go in the weight room with our strength staff and been able to lift and really concentrate on those things he can do to continue to improve, and that’s what we’re going to do. It’s about getting better every single day and how can you improve yourself and help the organization? He works extremely hard, but again, his health is very good.”

Moore can become the first player in school history to lead the team in tackles for four straight seasons, a feat that has been done just 11 times in FBS history.
