There’s no great answer to the senseless tragedy that befell the members of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on the night of June 17.

Nine people died at the hand of gunman Dylann Roof, a 21-year-old who admitted the mass murders were racially motivated.

The shooting took place in Charleston, S.C., and ignited several time-worn debates about race relations in the United States. At the center of those debates was discussion surrounding the presence of the Confederate flag, as several SEC coaches urged its removal from government buildings.

One of those was coach Steve Spurrier.

Now the Gamecocks are adding a helmet sticker to honor the fallen victims.

There’s nothing that can lessen the tragic nature of those killings. But this is a respectful gesture by the South Carolina football team.
